Comic Store Finds – Swamp Thing #1 Signed

I found these at my local comic book store today for only $100 combined! Each are in very good condition and are excellent additions for their price and my collection. Swamp Thing #1 has been on my buy list for awhile now – and, it’s signed by the artist! These were sititing on a table, recently picked up by the store, and they hadn’t been priced yet. I offered $100 and they accepted it.

Swamp Thing #1 (1972) – Signed by Artist Bernie Wrightson

I committed to buying this before I even knew it was autographed. It didn’t come with a certificate of authenticity, but I’m good with that. I didn’t buy it for the signature, but rather the first issue of Swamp Thing. I compared the autograph to others that are certified and it looks the same, but again, that’s not why I bought it. Wrightson co-created Swamp Thing with writer Len Wein in House of Secrets No. 92 (1971) and he drew the first ten issues of Swamp Thing series.

Avengers #19 (1965) – First Appearance of Swordsman (Jacques Duquesne)

The oldest comic I picked up today was Avengers #19, the first appearance of Swordsman. I can’t say I know a ton about Swordsman other than his brief appearance in the Chaos War in 2011. This is also the first appearance of Blackie Barker, a Silver Age villain of the Avengers and Spider-Man. This is a great issue to add to my collection and it is in surprisingly good condition.

Avengers #28 – First Appearance of the Collector and first Henry Pym as Goliath

I’m a big fan of the Collector, the key antagonist in this issue and his first appearance, especially his work in Silver Age comics. Hank Pym is also one of my favorite characters, so it’s cool to find a key issue in his development. This issue is also in great condition!
