Comic Pull of the Week – Spectacular Spider-Man #107

Rumors swirled this week of the new villain who’ll appear in Daredevil: Season 3 on Netflix, which begins filming in October. A character profile has been released that leads many to believe who the villain will be:

“[STEVE] 28-35, 5’9-6’1, Open ethnicity. An athletic but socially awkward FBI Agent, needs structure and rules to suppress the darkness inside himself. Athletic with medium build, responsible and resourceful, hair trigger temper. SERIES REGULAR”

The most likely character that this describes is Stanley Carter, otherwise known as Sin-Eater. A former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, his mind was warped by an experimental super-soldier program to increase strength and endurance. He moved to New York City and joined the NYPD. After his partner was killed, Carter flipped and began killing anyone who “abused authority. While it’s odd they added this character considering how he sounds much like Will Simpson (Nuke) from Jessica Jones: Season One, who also happens to be a main character in the Born Again story arc that most expect season 3 to be based on. I figured that Simpson would fill that role, crossing over to the Daredevil series, but I doubt they’ll have two similar characters in the same series.

Carter also has a bit of Punisher in him as well, which many believe will make an appearance in season 3 after his breakout appearance in season 2 and solo series that will be released this coming November.

With all that being said, I found a copy of Sin-Eater’s first appearance, Spectacular Spider-Man #107 for just $4 in excellent condition. This issue, before the rumor began to swirl, was going for about $4-6 on the secondary market. Now, it’s going for over $20. Not to mention, there aren’t many in circulation on the secondary market anymore. Though, those that are now adding “first appearance of Sin-Eater” in their title, which wasn’t there previously. So the rumors of a lesser-known villain have escalated prices to at least four times over so far.
